We’ve known Valeria Croatto for quite some time, having collaborated on several projects over the years. As one of the original supporters of FMFW, Valeria has been with us since the very first season, choosing Miami as the home base to develop her expanding menswear line, VAL. Recently, we spent a beautiful week together in Singapore, which gave us the chance to slow down, reconnect, and dive deeper into a conversation about her brand, her creative vision, and her unique relationship with leather — a material that is deeply personal and symbolic in her work.
What does leather mean to you on a personal level? Is it simply a material — or something more emotional, symbolic, or spiritual in your work?
My connection with leather has everything to do with an emotional and spiritual experience since my childhood. As a little girl, I had the opportunity to dress in unique pieces made specifically for me. For my family, we always valued the origin and the unique work that goes behind each piece. The aroma, textures, and colors would bring me many memories. Some of my extended family members have been in the industry for over 40 years, and being born in Argentina, the use of leather has always been within easy reach, though I understand not many people have those same opportunities in life. Spiritually, with Christian foundations, it has an even deeper meaning. The Christian Bible relates that God, as the Creator, provided earthly clothing as shelter to Adam (humans) to cover his nakedness — a true demonstration of God’s loving character and a constant presence as provider. He uses the earth and its very nature to meet the needs of all mankind.

You came from a different industry before entering fashion. Was this shift a creative calling, or do you see fashion as another form of business to master? It was definitely a creative calling! I consider myself a constant creator, artist, dreamer! I have very strong artistic roots in many aspects of art — like music, drawing, and painting. Creating strong connections is my strength. Several years ago, I decided to put all my passion to work for this calling. I spent many years gaining experience in the business world. As a true Gemini, I’m characterized by curiosity in various fields, but this is a stage in my life where I can merge several aspects into a single project.
Houston and Italy — two very different worlds. How do you navigate such contrasting environments and maintain creative and operational control? As a visionary, over the years I have been able to develop the sensitivity to know who to add to the project and delegate to execute each aspect with talent, experience, firmness, and above all, loyalty. Although I am based in Houston “for now,” I consider myself a citizen of the world. I love exploring, I’m constantly in contact and moving between cities. I love interweaving my worlds and taking advantage of each one. Houston is a constantly growing city, with a broad multicultural vision and rich in many aspects. While fashion isn’t a strong suit here, I’ve made great connections that have helped me develop the brand, and the opportunities are endless.

Paris for womenswear, Miami for menswear. This will be your third season at FMFW — what can we expect to see this time around?
Sooo very excited to present: “Valea” - a woman as a celestial body, between leather and light. Valea is not just a collection. She is a figure. A force. The embodiment of contemporary femininity — blending sensuality and strength, softness and sharp lines, depth and luminosity. In a universe of sheer fabrics, lace, satin leather, and sculpted silhouettes, Valea emerges as a mythic presence in the now — always in motion, never predictable, capable of evoking with a gaze and commanding with a stride. The color palette moves through deep burgundy, burnt gold, antique rose, and cosmic black. Textures interact: leather becomes fluid, lace weaves like memory, fringes move with air. Each look is a statement, each garment a scene.Valea is both the muse and the lead. She is the woman who asks for nothing. She is fashion as a secret language between the body and the world.

And this season, we introduce her counterpart:“Valeo”-a man as a mythic figure, between leather and silence. Valeo is the elegant shadow walking between light and gravity. A timeless masculine presence — not imposing, but undeniable. He is leather, structure, depth, restraint. A raw, precise beauty.Set in a landscape of brushed leather, architectural draping, crêpe, and controlled transparency, Valeo dresses the man who doesn’t perform power — he embodies it. The palette is carved in darkness — charcoal black, antique bronze, oxidized ivory, and deep bordeaux. Cuts are clean. Seams tell. The silhouette is vertical, yet charged. Every detail is deliberate. Every look is identity. Valeo is the man who doesn’t explain himself. He is the body’s language, dressed as an act.
